Welcome to the Hawkeye Chronic Health Alliance (HCHA) Mentor Training Program! This self-paced training is designed to help you feel confident, prepared, and supported as you begin your role as a mentor.

As a mentor, your goal isn’t to have all the answers—it’s to offer understanding, encouragement, and connection to a fellow student navigating college with a chronic illness. Through this course, you’ll learn how to provide meaningful peer support while honoring your own boundaries and experiences.

Each module includes short lessons, real-world examples, and a quick quiz at the end to reinforce what you’ve learned. You’ll also gain valuable knowledge of campus resources, including accommodations, wellness support, and academic tools you can guide your mentee toward.

🌟 In this training, you’ll learn:

  • What it means to be a mentor through HCHA

  • How to create safe, empowering mentor-mentee relationships

  • Communication skills, goal-setting strategies, and boundary-setting

  • How to support without giving medical advice

  • Where to direct mentees for support across campus

  • What to do if your mentee is struggling or disengaged

You’ll also receive access to downloadable tools, conversation guides, and check-in trackers to support your mentorship experience throughout the semester.

Thank you for stepping into this role—you’re making a difference just by showing up. 💙
